Celebrating Women On This Special Day

Better The Balance, Better The World

This Friday, the world celebrates women with International Women’s Day. The theme this year is #BalanceForBetter – Better The Balance, Better The World. The theme speaks to “gender-balanced boardroom, a gender-balanced government, gender-balanced media coverage, a gender-balance of employees, more gender-balance in wealth, gender-balanced sports coverage”1 .

The personal narrative of Balance for Better for me is that as women, we need to have better balance in life. As women, we are nurturers, we multi-task, we take care of so many things. Balance for better to me means taking notice and celebrating everything we as women do. And it also means remembering that we have to take better care of OURSELVES too. We need to be more mindful, take more breaks, receive the accolades, to invest in ourselves, and remember that doing things for ourselves doesn’t make us

selfish but self-fulfilling.

The idea of Balance For Better is very much aligned with how Lovelight Home Design helps our clients. We bring happiness into a home and incorporating Feng Shui is one powerful way to achieve this. Feng Shui is equally about the physical aspect of harmony and balance as it is about energy. In honour of International Women’s Day, here are our 5 tips on bringing more balance into the home for women through energy.

Shine On! Shine Bright!

Did you know that the windows of the home represent our eyes and the ability to have a fresh view on any situation? Clouded windows equates clouded views – clean your windows, let fresh air in and have a new perspective on things!

Make Your Kitchen A Place of Happiness

We all know that nutrients not only sustain us but have a huge impact on our health and energy levels. Our food and our kitchen have a tremendous impact on creating positive health. Keep your kitchen clean and inviting, so you can enjoy and experience your meal preparation and food consumption in a positive way. Wipe down your cupboards, get rid of old food, clean out your fridge, and give your stove a good wipe down.

Comfort and Functionality

For those that have a home office, sure it’s nice to have a beautiful minimalistic desk and sleek chair. However, investing in office furniture that is equally comfortable, functional, and stylish is also important. It helps with productivity and energy and helps keep you feeling empowered!

Face The Door

“Make sure that you turn your desk around to face the door to your office. This is essential to feeling in command. Too often we ram our desks up to a wall because that’s where the plugs are.  Don’t. When you face a wall, you face an obstacle. Women face enough obstacles already without adding a wall to the equation. Always sit facing the door, and if you’re worried about electrical cords, buy a cord cover.”2

Spa Oasis at Home

Although we are all for going to a spa and treating yourself, you can also create a spa oasis at home to help increase your energy and to rejuvenate. Here are some great ways for better energy in your bathroom: “the details often change, but the main ones are always the same - lots of essential oils and body oils, an aromatherapy diffuser, candles, art that has good relaxing memories and associations and some little details here and there that bring a sense of calm and relaxation (a bunch of dried lavender, several white color porcelain pitchers, etc).”3

The Year of the Water Tiger brings a lot of powerful change, and every home will feel this energy. We can't have a complete yang home or a complete yin home, so we turn to Feng Shui to create harmony and balance.

We’ve been in the year of the Water Tiger for a few weeks now. How is it going with creating balance in your home? Different rooms in the home lend themselves to either yin or yang, depending on how they are typically used. Given that we’re entering a year of being bold and daring, there are some adjustments you may want to make to bring balance into your home and make the most of the incoming year’s energy.

Decide that you want to make a difference for yourself. We cannot truly be 100% for others if we haven’t cared for ourselves first.

Bliss is worth creating in our homes because it’s where we care for ourselves and for many of us, for our families and people we love. It’s also where we heal our body and minds.

Cleanse old energy and welcome the new. It’s that time of year when many people start to think about spring cleaning their home as the weather gets warmer, flowers are budding and the sun shines a little brighter and longer each day.
